It might take some doing to find this well-hidden restaurant in northwestern Hamilton—it’s located at the northern most end of Bermudiana Road, across from the Robin Hood pub and the Esso Gas Station. But once you get there, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most inventive European cuisine in Hamilton. Named after the beloved Alice in Wonderland character, the restaurant is no less whimsical: Here you’ll be asked to don one of its in-house collection of hats (pirate, court jester, rasta dreads or the like) before being sat at one of its cozy tables. Then you’ll dive down the rabbit hole into an exquisite culinary world created by head chef Ben Jewett. Appetizers include jumbo lump blue crab cakes with sweet chili and ginger aioli, mussels in Thai coconut curry and a cognac and wild game pate served with sweet wine jelly and forest fruit compote. Entrees are equally as inventive—don’t miss the Hoof & Feather, a venison chop with breast of duck and calvados flamed pears—but make sure you listen to the specials before you order, since this restaurant has an ever-changing rotation of in-season dishes, which sometimes outshine the regular menu.
