Step one foot inside The Newport and you might just think you’re about to set sail aboard a luxurious yacht. But of course, that’s the point. Drawing on Bermuda’s great tradition of open-ocean sailing, and more specifically its biennial Newport Bermuda regatta, this casual gastropub in the lobby of the Fairmont Southampton evokes the interior of some of the world’s finest sailing vessels—complete with lacquered teak paneling, shiny brass bells, and large painted portholes that show an artist’s rendition of what you might see if you were actually dining inside a sailing yacht’s hull. The food is equally as inventive, especially since its chefs have continued to tweak the seasonal menu ever since the restaurant first opened in 2013. On the menu, you’ll find English favorites such as devils on horseback (bacon-wrapped dates) and fish 'n' chips served with mushy green peas. Plus, one of the best hamburgers in Bermuda: The Serious Burger, made with wagyu beef, then topped with garlic aioli, aged cheddar, crispy bacon, and a sunny-side up egg. There’s also a healthy selection of cured meats and shellfish at the charcuterie bar, but alas, this is one pub without beer taps of any kind—so you’ll have to select from The Newport’s long list of international bottled beers if you're craving a pint.
