Planning a trip to Bialystock

Biaystok has an impressively well-run tourist information center (Malmeda 6; tel. 85/732-68-31; www.podlaskieit.pl). It is also the regional information headquarters, so they also have information on the attractions outside Biaystok. The office is open weekdays from 8am to 5pm. Another tourist information point (Kolejowa 9/10; tel. 85/673-35-75) is at the railway station; it's open weekdays 8am to 8pm.

Getting There

By Car -- Well-paved roads take you to Biaystok, 193km (120 miles) northeast of Warsaw, in under 3 hours. Kruszyniany, Supras, and Tykocin are all within 30 to 58km (19-36 miles) from Biaystok.

By Train & Bus -- Biaystok is the main transportation hub in the area. There are daily trains to Biaystok train station (Kolejowa 9; tel. 194-36) from Warsaw and other major towns. From Biaystok bus station (Bohaterów Monte Cassino 10; tel. 193-16; www.pks.bialystok.pl), hourly buses run to Suprasl and Tykocin. Both destinations take under an hour. The service to Suprasl presses on to Kruszyniany three times a day. Travel time from Biaystok is about 1 1/2 hours.
