There’s no air-conditioning at this old-fashioned townhouse hotel in the old quarter, but thick walls with exposed oak beams and 19th-century solid stone floors keep the rooms from getting very hot, even in the middle of August. There is, however, heat available for the dank months of the year. Paintings and etchings of historic life in Bilbao cover the walls, and the furnishings and lighting were chosen by a pair of Basque sculptors. Rooms on the front can be noisy at night, since you’ll likely want to leave the windows open for ventilation. The breakfast (always included) features natural foods.
