Near the Park

Looking for something familiar? There's a 24-hour Denny's at 1515 Venture Way (tel. 970/249-0315), with all the usual Denny's favorites.

A good bet for those seeking groceries, deli sandwiches, and baked goods is one of the two City Market grocery stores in Montrose. There's one at 128 S. Townsend Ave. (tel. 970/240-3236; www.citymarket.com), which also has a pay-by-the-pound salad bar; and another at 16400 S. Townsend Ave. (tel. 970/249-3405). For general camping and other outdoor gear, stop at Jeans Westerner or the 24-hour Wal-Mart Supercenter, at 16750 S. Townsend Ave. (tel. 970/249-7544; www.walmart.com).


There are campgrounds on both rims, with pit toilets and no showers, but there are electric hookups available on Loop B of the South Rim Campground. Cost per site is $12, $18 with electric hookups. The South Rim Campground, which is open year-round and is rarely full, has 88 sites; the North Rim Campground is open from spring through fall and occasionally fills up; it has only 13 sites. Reservations can be made for some sites in the South Rim Campground from late May through early September through the park website or www.recreation.gov, or by phone ([tel] 877/444-6777). There is no dining in the park.
