The visitor centers at Otter Creek, Mile 61 (tel. 804/299-5125); Peaks of Otter, Mile 86 (tel. 540/586-4357); Roanoke Mountain, Mile 120 (tel. 540/982-9242); and Rocky Knob, Mile 167 (tel. 540/745-9664), all have campgrounds. The Roanoke Mountain campground is actually on Mill Mountain, about 1 mile west of the parkway above Roanoke.
Campgrounds are open from about May 1 to early November, depending on weather conditions. Drinking water and restrooms are available, but shower and laundry facilities are not. There are tent and trailer sites, but none have utility connections. Sites cost $16 a night. America the Beautiful senior pass holders get a 50% discount. Daily permits are valid only at the campground where purchased.
