So what’s the difference between New York Prime, and the other ninety-or-so steakhouses in Boca? Vibe. New York Prime is your great granddaddy’s steakhouse, old school, clubby, and even kitschy, down to the keyboardist belting out the best in 70s, 80s, and 90s music like a Catskills opening act. And if you are craving huge hunks of steak, simply prepared, with old school sides like sauteed spinach, hash browns, and a classic Ceasar salad, this is the place. Tuxedoed servers are skilled in slicing, serving, and shmoozing. A who’s who of Boca’s monied set love this place in all its paddled fan glory, they know the maître d’ by his first name, and they know the birthdates of the bartenders. There is even a Boca Raton police officer stationed up front, and when we asked him why he was there, once, he gave us a shady, inscrutable answer. But we know why he’s there. It’s smells good, the singer can belt out Sinatra and Hall and Oates like nobody’s business, and, it’s a lot more amusing than a night patrolling the sleepy streets.
