Trattoria Romana
Trattoria Romana ★★★ITALIAN—Trattoria Romana is a special occasion kind of restaurant, a bustling trattoria that looks like it’s been airlifted from Roma (read: purposefully mottled walls, leather chairs, white table cloths, and very professional waiters who take their jobs seriously). When you enter you’ll be greeted by the aroma of garlic, and the sight of people jostling to try and get a seat at the popular bar. If you can snag one, take it and don’t leave (bar seats are a hot commodity here). You can eat at the bar, too, if you don’t mind being jabbed in the back by all the hoverers. Better (probably) to head into the dining room, where you’ll be gifted with pre-dinner amuses bouche, like bruschetta and chunks of freshly cut parmesan cheese, before you tuck into one of their marvelous pastas. We like the pitch perfect penne arabiata, but the short rib pappardelle is also primo. Other recommended dishes: the veal and chicken parm, and the branzino with white wine, mushrooms, and kalamata olives.
