Located on a remote stretch of coast near the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse within a 2,800 acre nature reserve, the Grand Bahia Ocean View is beloved of bird watchers and other nature enthusiasts. This sunbaked region has salt flats and a lush mangrove reserve—a haven for many birds, both migratory and native. On property, the most popular areas are the handsome infinity pools. Unfortunately, the beach is choked with mangroves and therefore, not appropriate for swimming, though it’s a lovely place to stroll and tan. Oversized guest rooms have distinctive decor; most have four-poster beds and Spanish colonial furnishings, and all are comfortable and tasteful. The hotel’s Agua al Cuello restaurant is one of the finest in the area, worth a visit even if you are not staying here. The property went through a recent reorganization and name change and is offering special package rates including meals (in addition to the standard rates listed below) to entice would-be guests.
