Hótel Hamar
Part of the Icelandair chain, this surprisingly modern single-story country hotel, beside the eighth hole green of the Hamarsvöllur golf course, sits just outside of Borgarnes, making it an ideal stopover for those driving along the Ring Road. The rooms, decorated with neutral tones in a minimalist Scandinavian style, all feature under-floor heating and decks with outdoor seating. Some add glacier views. Golf packages are available. Their restaurant (main courses 3,800–6,300kr; daily 11:30am–9:30pm; reservations recommended in summer) has a menu heavy on fish, lamb, and local produce. Cod—served with cauliflower pureé, pak choi, miso, and sesame—is a nice break from typical preparations.
