The mountain huts at Breiðavík (Breiðuvíkurskáli) and Húsavík (Húsavíkurskáli) are operated by Ferðafélag Fljótsdalshéraðs (tel. 863-5813; The Breiðavík hut has a warden in the morning and evening. Both huts sleep 33 in bunks (2,300kr/$37/£18 adults; 1,150kr/$18/£9 ages 7-15) and neither has cellphone reception. The same organization plans to build another hut at Loðmundarfjörður soon.

Camping is allowed only at Bakkagerði's campsite and next to the Breiðavík and Húsavík mountain huts. Some people camp at Loðmundarfjörður, but it's illegal.

The Ásbyrgi Youth Hostel (tel. 472-9962; fax 472-9961;; 6 units, none w/bathroom; AE, DC, MC, V) is a cheap place to bed down for the night, but only one room is a double (4,900kr/$78/£39).

Two new accommodations in Bakkagerði are breaking ground at press time; one will have spa facilities. Ask at the tourist center for updates.
