Both polished and rustic, Craigie is one of the city’s top restaurants for special meals. A la carte choices are available, but the five- and seven-course tasting menus ($85 and $108) provide a chance to sit back and try plate after innovative plate of seasonal fare. Chef Tony Maws also hosts special events, including Chef’s Whim Sundays, burger and beer lunches with Somerville brewery Aeronaut, and a comfy Passover meal with matzoh ball soup. In a partial nod to the many vegetarians in the neighborhood, the restaurant offers a veggie burger—but in the bar room only, and on Tuesdays only. Sirloin, pork shoulder, and a full pig’s head (spectacular, if you’re game) are more typical of the menu.
