If you’re on a budget, or a committed vegetarian, seek out the Hare Krishnas’ chain of Govinda restaurants. This one serves vegetable curry, dal soup, pappadam, samosas, and other tasty stuff with a north-Indian influence. Everything is buffet-style, and the atmosphere is pretty spartan, but the food is very satisfying. This is a stimulant-free zone, so don’t come expecting alcohol, tea, or coffee—you’re likely to get something like homemade ginger-and-mint lemonade instead. There is another restaurant, Govinda’s West End, at 82 Vulture St., West End ([tel] 0404/173 027).
