Just 150 meters from the railway station, this no-nonsense hotel is on a quiet street. It may be a 10-minute walk to the main attractions around Markt and Burg, but it is close to the equally attractive and peaceful Minnewater park, where swans glide gracefully across the lake, and the Begijnhof, a walled complex occupied since the 13th century by the lay sisterhood of Béguines. Some of the rooms here can accommodate up to four people. They're neither that stylish nor particularly large, but the hotel is very well kept, and the welcome from the family that owns it is genuine. There’s a washbasin in each room, but the shower and toilet is shared and outside the room. The hotel doesn't accept credit cards, but at these prices, which include breakfast in the pretty downstairs room, it's worth the potential hassle.
