There's a definite "Grand Budapest" air about this splendid palace, recently restored to its original 1920s glory. The Art Deco gem is under the same management as the Bussaco Palace and it exudes glamor. You expect to see flappers dancing the Charleston here. Spacious rooms with a mix of understated modern and antique furnishings look out on swans gliding by on ornamental ponds and a swimming pool inspired by the Golden Age of ocean liners (alas, it needs freshening up).
