Inside the super-swish Alvear Palace Hotel is the haute-brow domain of the great chef Jean Paul Bondoux, who maintains that elusive "nearly perfect" standard in everything from the restaurant's white-gloved service to its award-winning wine list. You’ll learn a lot from the superb sommelier, and be left applauding the impeccably consistent French menu. The Peking duck is a classic, and there's also superb venison, hake, and beef, of course. For dessert, they'll make a Crepe Suzette right at your table and, keeping with the very French cuisine and service, there's a cheese cart as well as a selection of petit fours following the meal. Opt for the five-course tasting menu and expect to pay at least $200 US a person for the entire, unforgettable experience. (Note, though Callao is the closest subway stop, it is 11 blocks from the hotel.)
