Getting There

Burgos is well connected by high-speed train from Madrid (trip time: 2–4[bf]1/2 hr.) and Bilbao (trip time: 2[bf]1/2–3 hr.). Fares from Madrid range from 35€ to 43€; from Bilbao, 19€ to 20€. The Burgos-Rosa de Lima railway station is about 7km (4.3 miles) northeast of the old city on Avenida Principes de Asturias, s/n. Call tel. 90-232-03-20 or visit www.renfe.es.

Some 18 buses a day make the 2[bf]3/4-hour trip from Madrid. A one-way fare costs 19€ to 25€. The bus depot in Burgos is at Calle Miranda 4 (tel. 94-726-20-17; www.alsa.es), which intersects the large Plaza de Vega, due south of (and across the river from) the cathedral.

Burgos is well connected to its neighbors by a network of highways. From Madrid, follow the N-1 north for about 3 hours. Burgos is a short drive (1 1/2 hr.) from Bilbao.

Visitor Information

The tourist office, Plaza Alonso Martínez 7 (tel. 94-720-31-25; www.turismocastillayleon.com), is open July to September daily 9am to 8pm. From October to June it’s open Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 2pm and 4 to 7pm, and Sunday 9:30am to 5pm.
