Located near the Busan Museum, this cemetery honors soldiers who were killed during the Korean War (1950-53). There are about 2,300 military personnel buried here, from 16 nations. The Korean government gave the 14-hectare (35-acre) property to the United Nations in perpetuity as a tribute to those who gave their lives. Dedicated in 1951, the majority of the graves are British; 500 Turkish troops and more than 100 Dutch are also interred here. The remains of all American, French, Norwegian, Philippine, Greek, Belgian, Colombian, Ethiopian, and Thai soldiers were sent home for burial.
