The hotel occupies a completely refurbished noble house with an interesting back story involving a 19th century smuggler who sought refuge from a massacre here. The contemporary décor is in minimalist black and white but stays sympathetic to the history of the house. The bedding is crisply comfortable, and the well-stocked bathrooms have reassuringly weighty fittings. The house restaurant next door serves a good breakfast and, unusually in these parts, Italian food.
