Restaurante Café Royalty
This magnificently decorated grand café on the corner of Plaza de Candelaria has a remarkable history. Opened in 1912 to celebrate the centenary of Spain’s constitution, it became a favorite with intellectuals, musicians, and artists. The Cádiz-born composer Manuel de Falla gave concerts here. On the eve of Civil War in the 1930s, its doors closed, and it fell into disrepair over the next seven decades. Then in 2008, a wealthy local couple bought it and restored it to its original glory just in time for the constitution’s bicentenary in 2012. Come for the romantic ambience and gorgeous décor, stay for the excellent brunch and tasty tapas.
