The Mercado Central, Plaza Libertad, s/n (tel. 95-622-08-60;, is the best place to buy stunning Huelva strawberries in season, bananas and oranges from the Canary Islands, and spices to take home. The market is also ringed by a number of tapas bars. On the plaza out front, El Melli (tel. 95-621-39-33; sells an unusually extensive and well-priced selection of flamenco CDs. Two good shopping streets are Calle San Francisco and Calle Compañia. Spagnolo, Calle San Francisco, 31 (tel. 95-607-90-79;, has been creating preppy clothes with a polo theme since before Ralph Lauren was born. El Potro, Calle Companía, 8 (tel. 95-622-56-73;, the shop of a company based in the leather-working town of Ubrique southeast of Sevilla, has elegant leather goods, and the company’s horsehead logo gives many pieces a vaguely Louis Vuitton–like look.
