Green plastic hedges mark the outdoor area at Candy, but head inside for the full impact of this quirky little cafe/bar. Huge murals and dangling chandeliers give the place an offbeat but sophisticated feel. Another tip from a local—and yes, the coffee here is good—led me to this standout on the Grafton Street cafe strip. The menu offers some unusual (for Cairns, anyway) choices, such as black pudding, and each item has a fun name attached to it. “Duck Duck Goose,” for example, is shredded duck-leg confit on zucchini fritters, topped with a poached egg and beetroot jam. It also offers a range of interesting sandwiches. The cafe is a popular breakfast spot.
