If you want to stay within quick reach of the Hotel Zone's clubs, restaurants, and beaches, but don't want to be in the middle of the tumult, you can't do better than this small hotel tucked away in a quiet, well-kept residential neighborhood on the Nichupté Lagoon side of Bulevar Kukulcán. Four basic but comfortable motel-type rooms along an upstairs corridor are an unbelievable deal for the Hotel Zone, though most units here are one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes and balconies or terraces opening onto a lovely garden and small marina. Furnishings might remind you of your childhood, but the clean, well-maintained rooms are huge, and the panoramic view of the towering resort palaces across the water is spectacular at night. This calm refuge is less than 10 minutes' walk from Bulevar Kukulcán, and it provides daily transportation to beach clubs on the Caribbean side. Wi-Fi is free, but spotty. The solicitous front-desk staff speaks good English, and the owner lives on-site, which always makes a difference. Book directly with the hotel to get an American breakfast included for no charge.
