Stephanie Inn

The restaurant at the Stephanie Inn provides the most formal fine-dining experience on the North Coast. It’s not for everyone, but if you want a special-occasion restaurant with white linen and attentive service, this is it. (You don’t have to be staying at the inn to dine here, nor do you have to dress up, but you should at least be “smart-casual.”) The second-floor dining room is all wood and windows, though it does not look out on the Pacific. The menu changes often based on what’s seasonal and fresh. If they’re available, share the seared scallops as an appetizer; there are two large ones served with roasted grapes, walnuts, pancetta, aged Gouda fondue, and crispy shallots. On my last visit I had a delicate and delicious creamy asparagus soup with crème fraiche followed by a filet of wild Alaskan halibut with organic wild rice and grilled asparagus and a citrus/apple/fennel salad. The recommended wine pairing was perfect. There is a nightly four-course, fixed-price dinner that offers a considerable savings over a la carte choices.
