Dr. Samuel A. Mudd set John Wilkes Booth's broken leg after Booth shot Lincoln. For that action, he was incarcerated on a Caribbean island prison. The house hasn't changed much since those days. It remained the Mudd home until it was turned into a privately owned museum. In fact, Mudd family members still volunteer here. The 1830 house, surrounded by 200 acres, is filled with medical implements from Dr. Mudd's office and several items he made while in prison, including a checkerboard tabletop, a desk, and several shell-encrusted boxes. Also on the property are a farm museum and Mudd's original tombstone.
