Those who love Kermit and the Muppets may want to take a detour while in College Park to see the bronze-and-granite memorial to one of the University of Maryland's own, Jim Henson, who created the first Muppets while a student here in the 1950s. Jay Hall Carpenter, a nationally known sculptor, created the work, which was cast in a Baltimore foundry. Alumni raised the funds for the memorial built in 2003. You'll find Jim and Kermit sitting on a bench outside the student union.
