Special Events

During Carnival, Capua is the setting for an important festival that features a grand procession, farcical theatre performances (often on theme of political satire) and cabaret shows among its events. A regular fixture is the famous character Pulcinella, whom Capuans claim as one of their own. (Check with the tourist office in Caserta for a schedule of events.)

Getting Around

Capua is small and can easily be explored on foot. A stroll along Corso Appio (the original Via Appia), the historic district's main street, will take you past most of the town's attractions. You can grab a taxi at the stand by the train station (or call one at tel. 333-6157756 or 360-390297).

Getting There

Capua's train station has Trenitalia (tel. 892021 in Italy; www.trenitalia.it) train service from Caserta and Naples. From Caserta, you can also take a taxi. By car, take autostrada A1 to the exit marked CAPUA, which leads to Via Appia. From Caserta, take Viale Douhet past the Reggia and follow it west out of town; follow signs for CAPUA as the road becomes Via Appia and passes through Santa Maria Capua Vetere. The town is to your left after you cross the bridge over the Volturno River. You will find a parking lot off Via Appia at Piazza Umberto I, near the town center.
