Want to rub elbows with the locals? Pecos River Cafe is the place. A very busy, noisy diner, this breakfast and lunch joint has a simple décor—rough white plaster walls, wood trim, large windows, booths along the walls and tables in the middle of the room. The menu includes the usual breakfast offerings of eggs, pancakes, French toast, plus a few really good but spicy Mexican items, such as the Burrito Pronto (an egg, bacon, and potato burrito, smothered in green or red chile—we like green). At lunch you can get sandwiches, burgers, burritos, and tacos. Tip: The breakfasts are great and you can get them anytime, but they cost an extra $1 after 11am.
