Château de Locguénolé

Crowning a small bay enveloped by a 120-hectare (297-acre) forest, the grandest hotel in southern Brittany has just become grander, thanks to a complete makeover. Located near the town of Hennebont, 29km (18 miles) northwest of Carnac, the château reopened in late 2023 after extensive renovations which doubled its rooms and transformed it into a stylish modern retreat. The new decor discreetly pays tribute to Brittany’s past of seafaring and trade with the East Indies through vintage-style prints, textiles and furnishings. Spread over the main castle and three annexes, guestrooms don a palette of soft greens and blues paired with dark wood and marble. Some rooms have canopy beds, others have views over the elegant grounds and the most original is found inside a 1920s boat which is seemingly beached against the side of the château.

Guests can choose to dine in L’Inattendu, a gastronomic restaurant under the helm of Meilleur Ouvrier de France chef Yann Maget and situated beneath a vast glass atrium with leafy plants, or at La Maison Alyette, a more casual bistro which opens onto a lovely terrace.
