Las Bóvedas
In the old town’s quieter San Diego district, Calle de las Bóvedas leads to a series of military dungeons used during the War for Independence. With impressive 15-meter-thick walls, the jail, vaults, and ammunition storerooms were constructed between 1792 and 1796. While the setting is certainly evocative, most of the crafts, or artesanías, are aimed at the cruise ship market and tour groups, and what you’ll find here is of dubious quality and overpriced.
