Named after Cartagena’s boisterous central market, this kaleidoscopic club strewn with flags and whimsical artwork pays homage to all things Colombian, with a particular nod to Cartagena’s Afro-Caribbean heritage, cultural giants including Márquez and Colombia’s king of salsa, Joe Arroyo. As well as the standard-issue salsa, you’ll get a broader Latin musical range here, with live champeta, cumbia, and reggae Thursday to Saturday. Although the music doesn’t start until around 10pm, you can arrive between 7pm and 8pm for happy hour—try the Machacao, a fruity house cocktail laced with rum and honey—and you can even take a dance class. This is one of Cartagena’s most authentic spots.
