Friendly owner Elias has carved out his own tourist hangout in the middle of town, taking over several typical houses, which he has turned into accommodations, a cooking school, tour operator, a café, and the excellent Talisman restaurant (see “Where to Eat"). His efforts have helped give visitors a window into the life of Suðureyri’s fishing livelihood (see Fisherman Culture Tours). For this reason, many opt to stay here rather than in Ísafjörður, which is just a short drive away. The simple yet clean and cheerful self-catering hotel rooms (named after local fish) beside the restaurant are some of the best in the region, with modern bathrooms with tile floors plus the amenities of much pricier hotels. The rooms in the guesthouse are just as nice, only a little smaller and with shared bathrooms.
