Open since 1955, this is one of Charleston’s oldest bars, and a popular hangout for cadets from the Citadel. The space reopened in 2014 after a renovation and revamp of the menu, bringing it back to its no-frills, dive bar roots. Believe the hype—the roast beef sandwiches ($9) here really are the best in town. Inside there’s the old long bar, cozy booths, and a separate pool room. The bar is open daily 4pm to 2am.
