The Morehead Inn
Weddings take place here. Lots of them. I mention this off the bat because it says a lot about this 1917 inn's romantic ambiance. The floors are burnished wood except where they’re covered by fine oriental rugs; the furniture will be older than you are but it's polished to a fine sheen; and the beds (especially the terrific mattresses) are honeymoon-worthy. But its also important to know that this is a major wedding venue because you could book a room and find you're the only one who’s not invited to the party—so check in advance if there's an event happening while you're here since the property is small enough that group bookings will impact your stay. But that's really the only negative to lodging here, especially since your nightly rate includes an excellent breakfast, served when you choose. The Morehead is a few minutes' drive from downtown Charlotte in the lovely Dilworth neighborhood. The hotel often appears on the website and app HotelTonight at prices far lower than the plan-ahead price.
