When Alexandra and Axel Leonhard of Germany arrived in Charlottetown for English lessons, they couldn’t find the hearty bread they were used to, so they made their own, then started selling it. Today, they run one of the city’s most beloved little restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and baked goods. Lunchtime sandwiches lean toward the European—the hearty strammer max is two slices of whole wheat rye bread topped with black forest ham and 2 sunny-side-up eggs. Breakfasts are Bavarian and so hearty you can go without lunch—omelet filled with bacon, roasted potatoes, and onion, satisfies and comes with a side salad. Gluten free and lactose free options are available. If you have no room for them here, take away some Florentines or chocolate croissants.
