Formerly the Montri Hotel, this was the earliest address of note for foreigners in Chiang Mai, and it is still a convenient, inexpensive choice just inside the Old City—and across from Thapae Gate. Modern, clean rooms are comfortable, with a soft sofa, wide-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are small but functional, with a walk-in shower. The hotel’s main advantage is its location. Note: Ask for a room at the rear; you’ll get more peace and quiet; from the higher floors you can see the outline of Doi Suthep.
