This graceful hotel feels miles away from the city but is set right in the heart of the Old City. Just south of Wat Phra Singh, the unique boutique property is designed in a courtyard style, much like a Thai temple—though the rooms are far more luxe than monks ever get. We’re talking cool terra-cotta tile floors, high ceilings, traditional Chinese furnishings, and plenty of stunning Lanna antiques. The architecture is inspired by 11th century Chinese dwellings, from which Northern Thai décor has its roots. Deluxe rooms are just larger versions of superior ones (so only upgrade if you really like a lot of space) and all the bathrooms are bright and big. An indigo pool lies in the peaceful courtyard. Hotel dining is in either a gravel courtyard or the long, peaceful antiques-laden hall. Upstairs is a spectacular boutique.
