This idyllic guesthouse is encircled by verdant rice paddies and gardens, with mountain views in the distance. So, not right in the heart of the city (it’s about 10 km out), but the Thai-Dutch couple who run the hotel (consummate hosts!) work with a few taxis to get their guests into town for a reasonable amount. Four guestrooms are in a stilted traditional Thai home, the other two are in a detached house surrounded by a lotus pond. All are handsomely turned out, with comfortable platform beds, pieces of Thai art, fine wooden furnishings and bathrooms tiled with river stones. For those who do yoga, there’s a view-rich deck on which to practice sun salutations. The owners also supply free bikes for exploring the surrounding countryside—take advantage of them, as the area is exquisite.
