Tucked away on a quiet street just a block and a half from the Mag Mile, the Talbott was constructed in the 1920s as a residential building. Today, the independently owned boutique hotel embraces its history, and welcomes guests with its English country home decor (complete with quite a few framed, serious dog portraits) and leathery fireside lounges. What comes as a pleasant surprise, in contrast to the old-world sensibilities and antique-styled rooms, is its embrace of technology and its certification as a Green Seal hotel. Each sizable room is equipped with an Apple Mac mini, which allows you to connect to your computer, check your bill, or watch your stories on TV. Guests can flip the thermostat into “eco mode,” which alerts housekeeping, via iPad, to change linens and towels every other day.
