My own family has stayed here, repeatedly, when they come to visit, and they give this Lakeview hotel glowing reviews. I concur. First, the location is great if you want to feel like a local: it’s within walking distance of Wrigley Field, Boystown, the lake, and dozens of restaurants and bars. Rates tend to be decent, and you can choose between the main building, which has 60 rooms—there’s nothing special about them, but they’re clean and comfortable and fairly big—or the “annex,” which has 24 apartment-style suites. Each has hardwood floors and sectioned off rooms, and some even have kitchens. Plus, the hotel provides an impressive continental breakfast with muffins and cinnamon rolls from the famous Chicago restaurant, Ann Sather. There’s also a fitness room and hot tub, and front desk staff couldn’t be nicer. If you’re driving to Chicago, overnight parking is a (relative) bargain at $25.
