This fast-casual Asian spot is a bit confusing. First, it’s not immediately clear which line to choose or where or how to place your order. Then, I had trouble finding the forks. But once you get past that anxiety, it’s a nice change from the boring subs and fast food that dominates the Loop. Wow Bao serves bao (a Chinese steamed bun with your choice of filling), potstickers, soup, Asian salads, and bowls with teriyaki chicken, Thai curry chicken, Kung Pao chicken, Mongolian beef, and vegetarian dishes. Although I wouldn’t make this a dining destination, if you’re in the area it’s a relatively healthy lunch and affordable spot, and there are multiple locations around downtown, including one inside of Water Tower Place, 835 N. Michigan Ave., tel. 312/642-5888. If you’re extra calorie-conscious, you can even forgo the rice and replace it with Napa cabbage, lettuce cups, multi-grain rice, or quinoa.
