Need a giant cloth frog splayed out, dissection-style, on your wall? Head to this huge science-centric surplus store that moonlights as a fun shop and lab depot. Here, science experiment kits and lasers may fill one aisle, while furry robotic hamsters, inflatable rubber chickens, and UFO solar balloons are on the next. Oh, and then there’s military equipment, dental and doctor tools, and so much more. The items are all surplus, so when they sell out, they’re gone. You never know what you’re going to get, but I, personally, have never been disappointed in the adventure. Located in Jefferson Park, it’s about 40 minutes by train or 20 by car.
