The building alone, constructed in 2008, is beautiful. From outside, on the tony corner of Oak and Rush, you can watch the oh-so-fashionable shoppers wander up the stairs, which wind like urban switchbacks in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Inside, the beauty continues in true Barney’s fashion. This hallowed ground of style is a little bit fashion museum and a lot retail, with every item, from accessories to gowns, arranged just so. Sure, staff will look down noses—through their designer glasses—at you if you’re not dressed the part, but that’s all part of the Barney’s experience. If you want to see how the ladies who lunch do what they do, head up to Fred’s, a cafe on the top floor.
