Conveniently located within the Metra commuter train station, this darling, European-style market is filled with nearly three dozen stalls serving grab-and-go meals, like poke bowls and lobster rolls, to bakeries creating addictive mini doughnuts and brightly colored French macarons. Despite its name, it represents a number of favorite Chicago restaurants and doesn’t limit itself to Franco-food—although there’s no shortage of bread and pastries—peddling sushi, Kosher, Italian, Belgian, Vietnamese, soup, barbecue and more. Open year-round, it gets busy at lunchtime with locals grabbing a quick bite. The prices ain’t cheap, but you’d be paying much more at sit-down joints, and it’s a great starting spot to fill your picnic basket and head to the lake.
