On my first visit, I immediately fell in love with Heritage Bicycles, a coffee shop/bicycle maker/bike repair shop/bike apparel store in Lakeview. I still get that same warm and fuzzy feeling whenever I come back. First, the staff is so friendly, I can’t imagine them existing outside of the Midwest. Second, the concept of a bike shop (where they make their own Chicago-specific bikes) and coffee shop seems a bit crazy, but it works, and happy people fill the long, communal table all day long, sipping lattes. Third, this shop proves that not all biker clothing has to be ugly spandex. It can be fashionable and comfortable while also hiding your awkward bits.
