Tinctures, salves, ointments: They’re all here, at this old-timey beauty shop. A pharmacist opened Merz in 1875, selling herbal medicines and treatments that would, today, be classified as “alternative.” The shelves are stocked with all-natural soaps, lotions, perfumes, creams, balms and other skin-care items that smell so good, they will make you want to immediately switch brands from whatever you last bought at Target. A second location in Lincoln Square (4617 N. Lincoln Ave., near Giddings Plaza; tel. 773/989-0900) even has a pharmacist on hand to answer questions.
