It’s hard to call Rotofugi a toy store, because, really, the toys are figurines that double as art, and the store feels more like a museum gift shop, except there’s no museum in sight. This Lincoln Park/Lakeview store brings in artworks and toy creations from Eastern and Western designers, and many of those include small, angry looking animals with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. Don’t be surprised if you see, say, a Bob’s Burgers figurine next to a plush that looks like soft serve. The gallery shows and sells works by local and international artists. Despite the lighthearted inventory, there’s a rather odd seriousness and quiet to the store.
