The Boring Store is, of course, anything but. It calls itself an “undercover secret agent spy store.” And it does, indeed, have a rack of ex-agent’s former trench coats, which sell for $20 each. But mostly, this eccentric little shop has trinkets, t-shirts, and books, a fair number of which are by Dave Eggers, who co-founded The Boring Store. You have to ask to learn about it, but the shop doubles as a front (and fundraising arm) for 826CHI, a non-profit that provides tutoring and creative writing workshops for kids ages 6 to 18. So if you want to buy a light that clips on to your glasses or a taco shaped wallet and benefit an admirable cause, this is where to go.
