A UNESCO World Heritage Site, New Lanark was a progressive industrial mill and village in the early 19th century, offering its workers and families free education, a day-care nursery, social club, and cooperative store. Today, the attraction includes a chair-lift ride that tells the story of what life here was like, as well as self-guided tours of the principal buildings. A pleasant walk upstream will bring visitors to the three-tiered Falls of Clyde.
