Brevard Zoo
This delightful small-town zoo houses more than 900 animals, including white rhinos, red kangaroos, cheetahs, alligators and crocodiles, siamang gibbons, giant anteaters, emu, impala, howler monkeys, bald eagles, red wolves, and river otters. It also has a number of ways to get active, from its Treetop Trek (an adventure courses around the zoo in which visitors zipline or climb above animals) to kayak tours around an animal exhibit or through 22-acres of restored wetlands ($6). It’s also possible to hand-feed gentle giraffes and lorikeets in a free-flight aviary; and kids can get friendly with the wildlife at the Paws On play area, featuring a 22,000-gallon aquarium, water play, and petting zone. A private tour of the zoo is only $15 extra per person and very much worth it.
